Morphogenesis
In about ten years, Driessens & Verstappen created a highly original body of work focused on morphogenesis – the way shapes are created through natural processes and random influences. They phenomenon they studied and took as a basis for creating art works were extremely diverse: from the way carrots grow (sometimes resulting into very irregular shapes that are unacceptable to the food industry) to the shaping of fulgurites, holes formed when lightning strikes sand; from digitally generated random spatial structures to “Morphoteques” based on objects whose shapes are changed by etching and galvanising metal copies — adding and removing elements to/from a simple shape like a key or a peanut. A fascinating book to work on.
