The senses

Journalist Laurens De Keyer (1947–2016) wrote thoughtful columns and interviews for leading Flemish newspaper De Standaard. The first of his books I designed for Lannoo was Zintuigen, a collection of fascinating interviews about people’s special experiences with one of the five senses.
For the title on the cover I chose a beta version of Peter Verheul’s Versa Bold — the basis for his huge Versa family, which he developed that same year while working on my Dutch Type book. To me, it seemed the perfect face to refer to the senses, and express some sensuality. I moved the dot on the ‘i’ to where the book cover’s belly button could be.
