Afscheid nemen
Journalist Laurens De Keyer (1947–2016) wrote thoughtful columns and interviews for leading Flemish newspaper De Standaard. His second book I designed for Lannoo was Afscheid nemen, a collection of interviews with people who had to say goodbye – to a person, a way of life, the faculty of seeing.
For the title on the cover I chose Rimmer’s Albertan, a rarely used typeface which I loved in its simple elegance, and whose tear-shaped ‘i’ dot seemed very fitting. I photographed my old red suitcase and put it in a corner where it seemed out of place, ready to depart and leave an empty space.
